That's possible (as it is an Imperial sedan), but it is also an early car, so I suspect this feature was phased in a little later. You've got the idea as to what it looks like and does. All 1968s have these lights, by the way, perhaps as compensation for the other hardships of owning a 1968 instead of a 1967 (Just kidding, of course!).
