I checked my 1983 last night in the dark so the volt light could be easily seen. It did not come on when the door handles were lifted (ie, activating the illumuninated entry system) and did not come on when the door was opened. And I tried it a number of times, opening the door from the outside and from the inside seated in the driver's seat. I turned on the headlights with the car not running and the volt light did not light up. With the key in the 'OFF' position I could not get the volt light to come on. The only time the volt light did come on was when the key was turned to "ON" and while starting the car. The light went out when the car was started.
