I work at Budd Detroit which is now the TheyssenKrupp Budd Detroit Plant. I have pictures of a '65 Newport being used for testing the brakes. It is in the lab being readied for testing on the open road. I will try to scan the photos and make them available. Anyone know where they should be put for everyone to see? There is a story told by my 83 yr old father who worked in Engineering for the Wheel and Brake Division at the time which goes like this: When this car came in from road testing it was taken up to one of the upper floors for disassembly and measurement. The elevators are still there and in service for this and carry much more freight and one '65 Newport, however when the driver drove it off of the elevator and went to stop entering into the work station the brakes failed and the car went throgh the wall and into a storage area. No one was hurt as the driver was going 2-3 mph. However imagine if that happened on the Detroit X-way where the car was being "Tested"? The car was equipped with test insturments typical of the time.
