The surface that is turned the deepest is very visible
just by looking. It is the outer surface & it looks like quite a bit was
removed. I don't have a thickness gauge to measure them. I don't need them
at the moment. The left front rotor on my car wobbles a bit when you apply the
brakes quickly at highway speed, but they stop the car quickly with no pulling.
Its been this way since I bought the car in 94 & doesn't seem to have gotten
any worse. I do also have a used left front rotor that I bought from Murry Park
with light rust on it. I bought it because of the wobbling, but don;t want to
change it I don't have to.Then, the NOS pair came along.

How thick are they? Compare that with the original
thickness of .8775. If they are within about 25 thousandths of this,
they are probably OK to use. If they are thinner than that, I'd certainly
try them if you have no alternative, but be prepared to take them back off
if the brakes act funny. I don't know what the symptom of too thin rotors
is, but from a fade standpoint, I can't believe 25 thousandths would make
much difference. If someone else has tried this and run
into problems, please report!

On turning the rotors, it says in the 69 service manual in
bold face print that they must not be turned due to the close tolerance.
Some say this info doesn't appear in the 67 or 68 service manuals. I do
know that I bought an NOS pair of rotors some time ago & still in the
original Mopar boxes. The seller advertised them as new & never turned.
When I received them, they had been just recently turned. The seller said
they had some rust & had them turned. I asked for part of the puchase
price back & he obliged. Since the surface on one side of one of them
is turned quite a bit deeper then the other, I'm wondering if they're of
any use at all? John ----- Original Message ----- From:

brakes...and stuff
Hi, So,
amongst all this good info on these brakes I wonder if I missed something.
Do we know for sure what year range the Budds were used and were they used
exclusively in this range with no other types mixed in? I also vaguely
remember a conversation about whether the rotors can be turned at all quite
a while back but I don't remember the end result. Also, When we first got
ours, my youngest(thinking he wanted to be a mechanic)had the rear drums
off and when he put them back on, he left off the long spring that wraps
around the outside of the drum. Don't know why it was taken off,
but, anyway, I don't know where it went and I'm wondering what it's
purpose is and if it's really necessary.
Thanks,
Dave 67 Haze Green Sedan Covington,
Wa.
