Title: Re: IML: Myths..auto that is.
thought i'd add onto this one cuz i heard sum great advice at work onces... (i work at a fleet farm selling tires and etc)
so 2 guys come in and pose the question, i have a car with a locking lugnut, but no locker, how do i get if off. so of course i told them, well u can try the junk yard to see if they have a locker or otherwise go to the manufacturer, well this one lady says "what i'd do is take one of those 4 way lug nut things (tire iron) and find a size that u can slide it over, then jump on it and break it off, your only need 4 lug nuts anyway"
i coudln't help but shudder, lol
(these are the people u sometimes get when u sell cheap tires)

I wanted to bring up the subject of "myth" repairs. If you have been a car nut very long you probably know there is alot of BAD car advice out there. At least as far as repairs go. I think this forum would be a good place to list..all the NO NO's
Just to list a couple BAD IDEAS and myths
1.You can use transmission fluid as power steering fluid.
2.Type F transmission fluid in a Mopar automatic for "firmer shifts"
3.Form a gasket.... you don't need a gasket!{ya right}
4. Transmission fluid for a quick shine on your paint.
5. Bondo to fix rust holes.
6. Primer is good enough to last until you "get around to painting it"
7. You can weld a gas tank..just fill it with water. NOT!
Who has got their own? What bad advice have you been given and rolled your eyes..or even
