an overheated engin will transfer heat just fine through the steel block and manifolds,,,put your hand on a hot engins valve cover,,no water their,,,.change the oil filter first before takng off the adapter,,it probably got hot enough to weaken the rubber ol filter seal under pressure,,.it wouldnt hurt all of us to spend some money on a manual oil gauge and a temp gauge,,.idot?lites are not reliable even in new cars much less older cars,,there just a small lite bulb !!!! on fires,,check for leaking valve cover gaskets,,it only takes one drop of oil on a hot exhaust manifold,,make sure the alternater wireing harness is away from the exhaust manifold ,,.rout the power steering hoses as far away from the exhaust manifold as possible,,these things get hot,,,500 to 1100 F or so and will burn just about anything,,.it will help your power steering to run cooler and mabey last longer,,no different than a auto transmission..,,.rick
