As has been stated your canceling cam is probably broken.
I did this job on my '73 Satellite (Hi Mike P)-3 times. It is a little white
plastic piece with "horns" on the end. They break off and it won't keep
flashing unless you keep pressure on.
I assume the Imp is the same (I know that's dangerous) You need to pull the
steering wheel. Autozone will loan out a puller & may have the part. Mine
was about $3.
