90 Imperial "service soon " reminder light

I think the Federal Government mandated in the late 80's
that all emmision equipped vehicles be inspected to
insure nonooneas tampered with the sytem. The way I
understand it is that manufacturers made the computer
modules send a signal, such as your "service engine soon"
light to force owners to go to a dealer. It coincides
with a certain mileage vehicle ie. 50, 60k miles.
Most of the time the vehicle runs fine. To fix this the
dealer can plug into the CCM in the glove box or under
the dash and reset it.
