Yes, the 1939 Imperial had an early example of the waterfall grille. But if you want to see the first car with a waterfall grille, and I mean a true waterfall grille, then look back to 1934. And, no, contrary to what you may have read, the first waterfall grille did not appear on some GM product. The first waterfall grille appeared on the 1934 Chrysler Airflow - Six (CY), Eight (CU), Imperial Eight (CV), Custom Imperial Eight (CX and CW). And you will see where the grille of the 1974-75 Imperials came from.
