Punkdad; If I were you I would pick up the next 413 MoPar engine and Torqueflyte that I could find, for a reasonable price, and swap it back. I don't know which Chebby mill that you have in there but if it's not a big block your car is going to be way underpowered. The 413 MoPar is also much better built then most Chebbies having a forged steel crankshaft, thicker cylinder walls, and a stiffer block. The 413 also has a better bore to stroke ratio compared with most Chebby motors, because of this it produces a greater amount of power and torque per cubic inch. The Torqueflyte transmissions that come with these engines are almost indestructible provided that it isn't overheated or run without enough oil. The Torqueflytes are also three speeds and tend to be more efficient at getting power to the rear end then a Powerglide transmission. The point of all this is that you have a luxury car, an Imperial, that was the best car that Chrysler Corperation produced at that time. As such they were designed to be at their prime using the type of powerplants that they came with, substituting anything else compromises that. Chebbies, on the other hand, were the cheapest cars that G.M produced at that time and most of what they made reflects that. Take an original Imperial for a test drive, or at least go for a ride in one, and you will see the difference in ride, smoothness, and performance.
