Regarding A/C sealant, there is such a thing for the
R134 variety. I don't know if it's compatible with
R12, but it does indeed exist. I tried it in my '97
Jeep that had a leak so small the dealer couldn't find
it, suggesting to me that I just "add a can" once a
season. I found the sealant at the local Pep Boys, put
it in my near empty system with a "universal" hose,
and it has kept the A/C cool and working for over a
year now. I forget the brand name, but it's a normal
stock item here in Southern Calif.
