If the power steering pump throws belts, the belts would be on the power steering pump. What you describe are the GENERATOR BELTS. Do you know his car and how the power steering is set up? If the guy AND HIS MECHANIC say that the power steering PUMP is throwing belts, I think that the power steering pump is run by belts, NOT by the generator. Since power steering is standard on Imperials, some oddball add-on PS system must have been added for the pump to have belts on it.
