Last week I asked for recommendations for cross-country auto
transport companies. I received a few recommendations --

I also received a number of requests for a summary. I guess
it must be Imperial-moving season, eh? Here's what I've got...

Although I appreciate those recommendations, I've decided to go with
a different company, Dependable Auto Shippers, better known as DAS,
for my own Imperial move from Dallas to the New York City area.
I've been told by people in both Dallas and NYC that they're one of
the old, respected names in the business. And they have terminals
in both Dallas and NYC (well, New Jersey, but close enough), so that
makes it easy for me to settle for terminal-to-terminal transport
rather than door-to-door. They've quoted me $820 for enclosed
transport. I waived the usual $50,000 insurance, which would have
cost $200 more, and door-to-door service would have cost an additional
$200. I used the instantaneous quote interface at their web site:

But I also called them, and was offered a $50 discount for booking
before April 30, which wasn't included in the web site's quote.
Once I get to my new home in New York in early May, I'll post my
experiences with DAS here.
