I, too, have a '56 Imperial with the search-tune radio (with foot-control).
I do not want to alter the Imperial in any way, so I make do with the AM
stations. However, the '63 Pontiac Catalina Wagon I recently acquired has a
combination AM/FM radio/CD player installed in the glove box. The original
AM radio, while disconnected, is still in the dash, and the new unit plays
through the original speakers. Everything looks bone-stock until the glove
box is opened. The only disadvantage is that while driving, I cannot reach
the glove box to change stations!
