Yes, dim tail and brake lights are very dangerous and getting even worse, with all the new cars on the road, they all have superbly visible rear lighting. It is a real nightmare on my 47 Packard, with the tiny little 6 volt lights down by the bumper. I've fitted 50 watt microscope bulbs (my lenses are heavy glass), but it is little help. I get really paranoid driving at night in traffic. During the day, I use the old hand signals, which we were forced to learn back when I started to drive, in the early 50s. I think most modern drivers don't know what I am doing when I stick my arm out the window. Dick - Thanks for the detailed explanation and potential warning. I think the taillight bulbs have good spacing from the lense on my '66, but will check this before any install. Using these new bulbs on my other old car ('69 Alfa, if they fit) may be more important, as two drivers behind me have told they didn't see my brake lights. But they always check out OK, so something is "too dim". Bob At 05:36 PM 2/18/2008, you wrote: >Note that the P3496 is a conventional wire filament bulb, however, not an >LED.
