If you can reuse the Imperial's fuel tank tank mounting flange, then you can probably use a J tank. The Imperial flange has a four wire terminal and two fuel lines. The four terminals are two wires for the fuel level sensor and two wires for the electric pump. The two lines are pressure and fuel return. If your cars were carburetor converted, then you probably have a complete J tank without reusing the flange. (Reference: page 14-66 of the 1983 factory service manual.)
I left my Imperial with the EFI system. Best regards, Frank On Dec 2, 2007, at 5:46 PM, Abe Mantell wrote:
Hello All!So, is the 1981 Imperial a J or Y Body Type??? Seems to be some controversy! The reason I ask, is that I am in need of a new fuel tank for mine, and it seems new ones are tough to find...so I am looking for one for the same body type. Is this the same tankfrom the Cordoba and Mirada? If so, which years are compatible? Many TIA!!! Abe Mantell 2 - '81 Imps. mantell@xxxxxxxxxxxx
