Re: IML: Paint colors

there is an online paint site that claims to be able to mix any original color back to the 30's.  If you are thinking of doing a basecoat/clearcoat set up, you could buy your urethane base online and just buy any urethane topcoat system of your choice locally (saving shipping) to coat it (according to my brother who paints automotive/commercial vehicles professionally).

The other option would be to pull a trunklid, door,  or take the car to your paint shop and have them shoot/match a doorjamb or underneath the trunklid after you rub it out w/ polishing compound and are fairly sure you don't have oxidation on the spot they pull the color sample from.  They told me that they were unable to match from a chip/chart.  The codes on there are the paint brand codes and usually the corresponding factory paint code.
For instance, mine is XS = cloud white and sunset rose.

I have often wondered this myself and would like to know how many 58's are the same as mine.  My 58 Crown is Ermine and Champagne gold.  I would love to paint mine the same colour and bought paint chip charts from Ebay thinking the codes on them were mixing codes.  I took them to my PPG paint supplier and they said those codes do not mean anything to them and said I would have to get the proper mixing codes.  Where do you get the mixing codes from and what are the codes on the paint chip charts?.

Does anyone know if records were kept of how many Imperials were painted a particular color in a given model year?  I have a '58 Crown Southampton 4 dr in Spring Green.  The paint is original and I love the color.  I haven't seen another Imperial that color green and am wondering how many other Spring Green Crowns rolled off the assemble line in 1958.
