If the pedal goes away when the car sits it has absolutely NOTHING to do with changing to DOT 5. There is something wrong with the brakes on your car. They will fail and the car is DANGEROUS until you are able to fix it or get it fixed. DOT 5 works fine in all cars except those built that specifically state they can't use it. That applies to modern non-skid braking systems, possibly to Imperials built in the 1990s (I don't have any of those).
All of my cars have DOT 5 and some sit for years without any effect on the brakes what so ever. The newest car I have with DOT 5 is a 1986 FOMOCO Lincoln Town Car. It works great.

Use DOT3 Fluid and MC out of a 67-69 Newport, which had 4 drums while the rest of the universe went to Discs. Fit is exact.
