and only realized when I got the dash back that the '58 style mirror cannot be mounted on the 1957 dash!Not true !! Before i install the Mirrormatic i had a '58 mirror on my '57 convertible: I need a '58 because the 58 mirror has a longer strut and because the rear (plastic) window on convertible is less high than on a closed body. So with the '57 mirror i could only see the lower of the rear window before it touch the windshield. I had indeed a problem with the strut, i don't remember exactly but i think that there was different thread ends on '57 and '58 mirror . Note also that Mirrormatic has a '58-like strut and it bolted well on my '57 --
