Re: IML: The exclusive Imperial

Patricia,
I took my 60 to the Mopar Nats in Columbus last month.  If you've never been there, you enter the show and park wherever you can find a spot.  There is no areas set aside for particular models or body styles.  I ended up parking in an area full your garden variety muscle cars (real nice garden by the way).  My 4 door Imp was the only non muscle car in an area holding probably 150 or so cars.  I talked to so many people about this car that I ended up with a sore throat.  The guy parked next to me with a  drop top drop dead gorgeous 67 Barracuda was getting a little irritated about all attention the BAttleship Imperial was getting.  He kept making comments about 'non muscle' participants.  The cruises at night were also pretty slick.  RoadRunners and Chargers are great to see, but at an event there are a lot of them.  Seeing a 20' long finned work of art driving past you is not something you see too oftern.

I too, think it is just as important and maybe even more important to ?save and show? an Imperial in whatever condition, than to insist upon a #1 or #2 condition one.  Mine is a #3 now and I am very proud of it.  It was a #4 for many years before we could fix it up a bit, but I was always proud of it then too.  Donn &  Clay?just keep showing your cars where ever you can.  Imperials in whatever condition are so refreshing to see in any show or parade when viewed along with the usual run of GM and Ford products, rods and muscle cars.  No wonder at all why the public is fascinated with the Imperial!

I used to show my '60 LeBaron in all it's decrepit glory.  I had just as much pride showing it as if it had been fully restored.  All eyes were always on me when entering the show.  Likely because people couldn't believe someone might actually drive such a mess.  Local club members knew I had started with a car that had moss growing on it, an engine full of water, and a baked interior.  People are so curious about the '60 that it does not seem to matter much.  Lots of congrats to anyone who goes to the effort to keep these cars on the road.  As rare as they are condition does not matter to most who just enjoy seeing these cars.

I know what you mean, Clay. The local antique car club is having a car show this weekend. Mine is the only Imperial that will be there. There is a '56 Imperial and a '38 C10 (nonrunning) in the club but neither of them get out much.

My Custom with it's faded and flaking paint, slightly dented fin, cracked dash and original interior will be the only representative of our marquee. Interestingly my car gets a lot of looks (and smiles). Obviously the styling is just right to really get peoples attention, so that makes it fun.

Greeting everyone
I had the privilege of entering my 60 Imperial in a car show this weekend in
Hugo Minnesota.
No I didn't win anything.
The other entries were way too nice, and my 60 Custom needs too many
things.
