I don't know about the use of dry ice, but I do remember a device that I 
found in my grandmother's basement.  It was a bin designed to sit on the 
 driveshaft hump that you were to fill with ice.  It had a little fan 
on top and plugged into the cigar lighter.  It was Mopar branded, so I 
imagine that it was an accessory bought to go with either my 
grandfather's 62 Windsor, or 67 Newport.  Unfortunately, I don't know 
whatever happened to this thing.  It probably suffered the same fate as 
the Mopar kleenex box (landfill).  I imagine that it might have cooled 
better (and made a better display!) with dry ice, although something 
would certainly be lost in the convenience factor.
