Fortunately, I never had a hinge stop break on one of my Imperials. However, I once had the spring break that holds the hinge in place. To someone who has this happen to them, the excellent hinge stop replacement procedure: http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1964/64Hinge/Page01.htm might imply that the door hinge needs to be removed to replace this nearly inaccessible spring. If the spring is the only that needs replacing, here is how I did it -- Install new spring to the door jamb mount. -- Take a 100lb-strength length of picture hanging wire and thread the wire through the slot in the hinge where the doorstop lever slides. Loop the wire around the other end of the spring. -- Attach the ends of the picture hanging wire securely to a stout screwdriver. -- Using the screwdriver as a pull-handle, pull the new spring out with the wire, and hook spring over the end of the door stop lever. -- When secured, you can cut the wire and remove from spring. Voila, a new spring installed. If replacing the door stop as per the website instructions, you can also use this method if it appears it would be easier to re-install the rebuilt hinge assembly without the spring holding the hinge in the wide open position.
