From: "Frederic Mardon" <fmardon@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: IML: 950x14 vs. 235/75R14 (1957/1958) Hello list, I'm about to change my 20 years old tires (currently 950x14), and I waswondering whether I should go for radials or stay with bias ply. Has someonemade this conversion, with 235/75R14 radials ? The overall diameter is smaller with the radials, and I'm also unsure about the final aspect (doesthe car look as if it had "small" tires ?). Any recommendation or advice iswelcomed! My rims are 14", so the choice of radials is very limited. Any pictures showing a 57/58 Imperial with such radials? Regards, Frédéric 1958 Imperial sedan
I'm a radial guy - I think radials are superior to bias tires for everything except snows on old trucks., but I haven't owned an Imperial older than '62. I also _drive_ my cars, which can make a difference. 9.5 is an amazingly wide tire for a 14in rim - if you could find a 245/75R14, that'd almost eliminate your loss of height. If not, I don't know about going to a smaller tire... In that case, I might stick with bias.
