Hi Steve -
Unfortunately the only times I've had bent push rods was
when bad gas which had turned to varnish, had caused stuck valves which in turn
bent the rods. This happened on my '60 and also a friends Lincoln Mark
III. That's why when I waking my '60 this time, I'm using the lawn
mowers' gas can until I get the tank and lines cleaned.
When I had the bent rod on the '60 I got off lucky and
the engine never bent another. On my friends' Mark III, several valves
stuck open which punched holes in the pistons basically trashing an otherwise
good low mileage original engine.
I'd get some Marvel Mystery Oil and add it to the
new gas as per directions in your restored tank. Hopefully this will rid
you engine of the varnish of the bad gas. I guess the worst case scenerio
would be re-doing the heads. (Ouch!)
Good Luck -
