Re: IML: Imperial Cross Ram

Hola Class

I agree with Allan that just adding the "cross-rams" is an mistake.

The 1963 Chrysler or Dodge 413's with more tomato sauce ( 350 hp ) all had the 3.23 ratio rear axle unit, an 0.444/0.450 cam lift vs the Imperial standard 413 engine of 2.93 gears and an lift of 0.389.  These are spec's from an 1963 Hi-Perf 4 bbl or 2-4 bbl 413 Hi-Perf.  The "other" 413 also had an twin snorkel air cleaner housing and dual exhaust.  In Imperial speakie, the clothe tops also had duals and etc, even though the Imperial Division only quietly listed the engine as 340 hp.

By 1966 the hot tomato sauce 440 had changed to an 0.425/0.435" lift and the Imperial 440 had the same cam shaft.  The duration was at 252/260 for both engines.  But the Chrysler "Firepower TNT"  440 with twin air snorkel's and dual exhaust was advertised with 360 hp over the standard issue Imperials 350 hp.  The dual exhaust 440 in the cloth tops was listed quietly listed as 350 hp too.

Now zoom up to today.  The MoPar Cam Assembly under # 4286675 is used by the Chrysler 300 Club since it is the closest to the spec's of yester-year.  Also add the exhaust manifolds  of ... http://www.1aauto.com/1A/ExhaustManifolds/Dodge/PickupFullSize/1AEEM00081/67558/ and you too can have an 1960-1966 4 bbl 413 or  4 bbl 440 with better spec's than yester-year's best due to the exhaust manifolds.

The 1974 20" seven blade fan from the vintage 18 1/2" fan and some other new items will also help to keep what hp is there,  there.

Subject: Fwd: IML: Imperial Cross Ram

Hello All,
Just a quick note regarding adopting Ram Induction to an Imperial 413.  As I remember - the 300F engine was a lot more than just the"cross ram" intake manifold. It also include a "hotter camshaft" ( my guess is a 276 degree duration )  solid lifters as well as internal modifications. Additionally, I am guessing a dual breaker point distributor was also included. My point is simple. This was designed as a package rather than an add on. I don't know for a fact - but I am assuming that dual 4's would "overcarb" the engine. Without the other mods -  it is doubtful that you could actually realize a true gain in horsepower. Also - the other contributors are absolutely correct - in that a multiple carb engine is difficult to tune.  Thoughts?
