If the timing marks are jumping around then it is time to check the timing chain. Do this by moving the crank one way then the other while watching to see when the rotor starts to move. If you can move the crank pulley more that 1/2" inch one way or the other then it is time for new timing chain. The timing chain will cause eratic running.
