Re: IML: distributor timing

Chris, the timing should stay fairly stable at all RPM's.(With the vacuum dis-connected) The easy stuff is, a good set of points, like Standard Blue Streak, not the standard import cheapies. The other thing is, since this is a "Rebuilt" distributor, it's possible the advance slots are worn, and have not been filed to remove the burrs. The advance weights may also be stiff, or not lubricated. One other thought, I don't recall if you were also changing carbs, but 1500RPM is about when you go from idle to hi-speed jets. The transition point can cause missing, and stumbles. The last concern would be timing gears and chain.Call around to some High Performance shops, and see if any have a distributor machine, they can run your dist. and tell if thats the problem.Ya'll have a nice day, Dave.
