There could be a probem with the master cylinder.I think the brake light switch is connected directly to the back of it (isn't it under the car?). I had a similar problem with another car that was set up that way. The piston was sticking in the bore. At the time, my brake lights were inoperative, for a different reason, but the brakes were acting like yours. If the lights had been funtional, I might have seen that symptom as well.

There is some possibility that the car once was owned by Gen McArthur, but this is merely what was suggested by the previous owner. The car was in Berkeley, and McArthur owned a house there at one time. The Serial # tags are removed.
I recall, in the Norfork, Va area, that McArthur was driven around in what was, if memory serves, a '50 (or close) Chrysler limousine, so maybe he was partial to Chrysler products. If anyone has any info, I surely would like to hear it.
Also, a question re the brakes on my 53 Imperial. The brakes start to lock up after a few minutes of running, even if the car is stationary. (At first, I thought it had something to do with driving the car around, and applying the brakes). An additional problem is that the brake lights remain on after the car is parked, and everything turned off. Not good for the battery unless you disconnect a cable. A local shop is investigating, and of course they suspect the power booster, but don't know exactly what is happening. Any ideas?
