Re: IML: 64 Wheelcover? COLOUR?

1964 was the first, although I have seen some 1957 and 1958's that had body color painted into the wheel covers. In those years, I think the only factory alternatives were black or white, depending on year. I suspect the cars that I have seen with pink wheel cover centers were done by the owner's later on.

I have seen '66s with body color painted behind the cast veins, but I don't recall seeing that when the cars were new. A quick look at the OIC web site would clear it up. I expect the Sales Brochure would illustrate anything that dramatic quite vividly. I think '67, '68, & '69 are suppose to be black behind the veins, with a silver colored center, and think that I remember seeing '70s Imperials w/ color keyed wheel covers. Someone else who knows more about them will need to address that.

As long as we are in that area, when did they start with color inserts? Some years the color area is too small to tell by the pictures.

My 69 had the wheel covers matching the vinyl roof colour, but my
75 has only chrome and black. When did they stop the colouring
of the wheelcovers?

The wheel cover centers are supposed to match the
paint on the main body of the car. If the roof was a
different color, painted or vinyl covered, it was
likely possible to have them match that color.

When the car is a solid color, I am not aware of any
wheel covers coming from the factory that did not
match that color.
