It is ALWAYS recommended in any vehicle
service literature or manual that the ground terminal be
disconnected FIRST from the battery! This is done so that if one should
accidentally make contact with any part of the vehicles metal with a
tool, that there will not be an ensuing spark and possible explosion.
Once the negative terminal has been disconnected & moved safely away
from the battery, the positive can be removed if need be. Safety first at all
times.
