In my opinion, there are few things more frustrating than trying to
work on a car that has been modified to accept other than the original
parts. That said, if you know what you have and what to buy it isn't a
problem.
Unfortunately, I have been in the opposite position of purchasing
someone else's "work". I therefore do not believe that it serves the
best interest of the future of this hobby to make changes when the
original parts are available.
I sold the car that I had that experience with and I was glad to be rid
of it. For starters, I didn't know what shocks, air filter, fuel pump,
or spark plugs to buy. The front tires were different size than the
back, and half of the accessories didn't work because the car was
converted from six volt to run on 12. I replaced it with an original
car that had never been worked on and have found repairs and
maintenance to be infinitely more direct.
My goal in this hobby is to enjoy my vehicles as they were intended
and, at practically any cost, maintain original configurations whenever
possible. This will ensure that future owners, who will someday be
their caretakers, will be as fortunate as I am in knowing what they
have, minus the need for a three ring binder full of non-stock
information required to operate and maintain the car.

Mike,
I believe the issue for some going the Supra rotor route, is that the
original Imperial hub needs to be machined to fit the Supra rotor.
Once done you can never go back to the original rotor setup unless you
acquire a new set of original hubs.

Mike and all:
I was looking at doing the Supra conversion prior to the availability
of the new run of Budd rotors. Thanks for the excellent article and
engineering.
I spent just about $400 for my two Budd rotors. I am guessing that I
could have done the Supra conversion for less than that AND in the
future if it ever came up again would need replacement Supra rotors at
about $30 each and not the Budd rotors for who knows what price?
I understand that the Supra rotors need to be modified to be used so
lets say they cost $100 each and are readily available vs the Budd
rotors unknown cost and availability.
All in all I probably would have been better off going the Supra route,
but my cars does have the OEM rotors which is worth something.
There are two sides to every story.

As the author of the self-help article on converting
Budd brakes to use Supra rotors, I'm a little offended
by his listing.
I'm glad that someone stepped up to the plate and is
finally reproducing these rotors, but at the time I
developed and tested the Supra rotor concept, this was
not an option to me.
As for wasting time, money, and effort...if that's
what you're worried about, get out of the old car
hobby!
