They seem to be more of a traditional touch given to luxury cars these days, or at least as recently as my 1980 high end FMC daily driver. It has one fastened to the back of each front seat cushion, above the magazine pockets. Although more solid than a "rope", it could still be called a Robe Rail, but I think most people use them as an assist handle to get out of the back of the car.In 1960, LeBarons had it but I don't know if Crowns did, or even LeBarons with swivel seats, for that matter. Customs did not have a Robe Rail. The back of the front seat of my '65 Crown has a metal handle on each side, as do my '55 and '56, but nothing that one could hang a robe or a blanket from. Clearly they were more of an assist handle. And of course we can't forget the Lavalier Straps in '64 and later LeBarons! My '68 has those, but no Robe Rail.Paul W. -----Original Message----- From: dbarker534@xxxxxxx To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Fri, 9 Feb 2007 2:13 PM Subject: RE: IML: Lap ropeDefinitely not me. I guess I'm younger than I thought...kinda. I would have thought a 62 would have been long past the years of deficient heaters. Did alot of different cars have them, or just the top of the lines? The 60 rumbler american I had 25 years ago sure could have used one. Of course, in ND you carried that stuff in the winter time anyway if you traveled much.Dave 67 Haze Green Sedan Covington, WAFrom: Ken Lang <imperialken@xxxxxxxxx> Interesting.... I personally figured it was just one individuals wayofdescribing a seat belt. Who knew? Ken [mailto:mailing-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Neal Herman A lap rope is a rope, duh!, that was strung across the back of thefrontseat, over which to hang a lap robe. A lap robe is essentially ablanketthat back seat passengers draped over their laps and legs in thewinter, athrow-back to when cars' heaters weren't as efficient as they aretoday.----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com -----------------This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
