I have a 62 and the autopilot came from a 61. Someone from IML has a set of cables they will sell to me. I should be just about set. For some reason though the number dial from my switch was missing. Anybody?? Thanks.

I found power steering hoses online and it says the with and without auto-pilot are different. Sound right?

Thanks again for the technical support.

If the Auto Pilot Unit is truly one that came from a '62 Imperial, you
shouldn't have any trouble. One cable goes from the speedometer to the
unit under the hood, while another one goes from the unit down to the
transmission. The lengths are not critical as long as they will reach
where they need to go. I prefer to have the one to the speedometer a
little long so that I can pull the instrument cluster without reaching
up to undo the cable first. I could be wrong, but my recollection is
that the ends are all the same, except where the end goes into the
transmission. You might even be able to make up your own cables from
those red HELP kits, IF you have the housings.

The control cable fastens to the knob in the dash. I think the knob
from '61 through '63 is the same. The others will be different in style
and the way they work. '64 on has a plastic gear that can easily become
stripped. There is also a special bracket and linkage that connects to
the throttle. At some point several things changed so you really should
be getting parts from another car that is the same year as yours.

Keep in mind that both Ford and G.M. used the exact same appearing unit
for a time, but with at least different size cable fittings and and
mountings and possibly other things as well. You also should study the
FSM for your car as I think it may show the year specific installation
particulars. If it doesn't, then you should get pictures from someone
who has the same year as you with a factory installation.

I have a '60 LeBaron, '62 LeBaron, and '63 Crown all with factory Auto
Pilot. I think have noticed subtle differences in all three years
whether it be the mounting position, differences in the throttle
linkage, or the unit itself. The brake booster changed drastically in
1962 altering Auto Pilot related mounting and linkage. It wouldn't be
convenient, but I may be willing to take digital pictures and e-mail
them to you if you can't find another way.

Yes that's right. I went through the same process but had to have my
old speedo cable shortened and another lengthened by a local cable guy
who salvaged the factory ends of two cables to make up new cables for
me. I can give you the lengths if you end up going down this track?
I think the originals are hard to find? Any other ideas on this one?
