Hi Paul,I haven't looked at my 1960 yet, but as it also has this big 3 inch hole in the trunk floor... Would it be possible then to replace the tank sending unit without the need to drop the tank first?
Thanks, Robert----- Original Message ----- From: <randalpark@xxxxxxx>

All of my Imperials have that. I believe that it is an access for the sending unit. I have used it to gain access and replace that unit in my '55 (gauge still doesn't work, though). I haven't explored the others, but will be dropping the tank on my '60 LeBaron sometime this spring. If I find out more, I'll let you know. The rubber plug in my '65 has gone missing, so I used a spare metal master cylinder cover I bought for my '48 Lincoln to plug the hole and keep out the rodents! It fits exactly, but it didn't fit the Lincoln!Paul W. -----Original Message----- From: luke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Mon, 5 Feb 2007 11:26 PM Subject: Re: IML: 1960 Two Door Southampton w/No Other DesignationsSpeaking of strange holes in 1960 imperials....I have had mine down to bare metal as well and have been crawling around in the trunk and wondering what the big hole to the left of center in the middle of the trunk floor is meant to be for? Mine was plugged up with a factory rubber plug. The hole is similar to the gas tank gauge hole in size but it's got me stumped as to what option it might be for. All I can think of is that it was a rare Imperial option of an 'emergency breath hole' for unfortunate Imperial owners who find themselves captive in the trunk of their own car? But as yet I have found no reference to this in the owners manual. Any takers on this one?Luke 60 Le Baron On 5/02/2007, at 3:56 AM, Tom Scott wrote:the Crown emblem above the script.
