Re: IML: Transmission Fluid

Hi;
Mopar parts guy here again.
ATF+4 is a patented product, so all of it has to be made the same. Chrysler licensed the formula to other fluid manufacturers to make sure there is broad supply.
However, unless the local dealer is charging a premium, the aftermarket will not be significantly cheaper. It is an expensive fluid to make.

Is all ATF-4 all the same or is it different like Coke and Pepsi- both are Coca-cola but are different?

Hello, just wonder if the dealership is the only place to buy ATF-4 7176 transmission fluid for my 93 Imperial. My Mechanic needs to replace a gasket and said he could get the oil from his supplier and doesn't have to go to Chrysler for it????? Is this true because I don't want Daxtron ! Thanks -Anthony
