Not sure if this would even apply to your '67 but are you sure its the rear making the noise? I only say this as longer ago than I want to admit to, I had a bad grinding sound that I would have bet $$$$ was coming from the rear. After checking things some very knowledgeable backyard mechanics I knew back then, said I should pull the rear axel's and check the bearings.....the drivers side was 'toast'! Again, this may not apply to your '67...! It all comes down to how much it bothers you and how much time and money you want to expend to fix the problem.I do not believe that you are doing any permanent damage by continuing to drive the vehicle. Some places sell complete third members which you just bolt in to replace yours. With the Sure Grip they seem to run just under $1000 and about $300-400 less without the Sure Grip. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Strohmeyer" To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: IML: rear end noise Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2007 09:23:16 -0800 Hi all, My sure grip rear end is moaning/whirring at above 30mph. If I lift my foot slightly off the pedal it goes away completely. After looking over 40 years of receipts I discovered 10 years ago and 10k miles ago the rear end was completely rebuilt. I read that there's a "special oil for sure grips". Isn't this just 90w gear oil? It was a little low so I topped it up but no change. Any ideas as to what this may be. I'm going to contact the former owner to see if rebuilding it actually made the noise go away.
