Re: IML: Chrysler and/or Imperial nameplate

The formation of the IMPERIAL as a separate make of car offered by the Chrysler Corporation is completely explained in detail at the OIC Web site. If nothing else, it is the basis of the existence for the Imperial Owner's Club, the OIC, and the IML.

As to why it occurred, may I suggest that it was a marketing plan by a major American manufacturing corporation to increase profitability?

Subject: IML: Chrysler and/or Imperial nameplate

In 1955 the Imperial did not have the Chrysler nameplate anywhere to be found on the ext. body. In other Imperial years it was displayed on the cars. Does anyone know why this occurred? I understand that Imperial was a separate division like Cadillac is to GM. Did they want to emphasis this point of separation in 1955? Thanks -Anthony
