That was designed to handle better, but also added to the heat generated during pursuit, from many steering corrections. My 77 GranFury Police, handled much better than my 78NYB, you could turn a corner (77Fury) with a little more than 90degrees on the wheel. What causes the steering fluid to overheat? Friction in the fluid as it does its work? There aren't friction plates like in a transmission, and I'm not seeing what would cause this. What would cause conditions to change that would make it heat up more on a tow vehicle? Load on the front wheels inducing more strain to pivot them? --- About coolers: I have 40 of them hanging on a rafter. They came from Imperials, so presumably take no modifiaction. They are a non-wear item as they are just a finned cooler with hoses. I can media blast, solvent tank, or leave covered in vintage funk at your prefere nce. Contact me off-list about that.
