Imperialists,
My question was posed because through the archives
I did not see enough to NOT try it. Hey, I am plumber by trade and work
with electricians, and was forewarned. I posed this
question PRECISELY because I knew the proper answer would come through the club
and the hobbyists/specialists/experts who monitor this site. For when a
plumber picks up an allegedly unmolested car from transport for the first time
and finds extra batteries and toggle switches everywhere my flag goes up the
pole too. Having never seen this 6 volt operation and seeing it for the
first time, leaving my cables on only for a moment and then pulling them when
NOT A LIGHT WOULD GO ON, I would/did not try and turn it over, just needed to
see if I could "power it up" and find some semblance of electrical current
anywhere. I am cognizant of the dangers and came to the site for the help
which as usual was precise and direct. I know when to keep my eyes and
ears open and my mouth shut. I am a good apprentice :<)
Of course I am taking Dick's (and the rest of the
site's) advice and starting right from scratch: out go these two sixes (it
is still a six volt system as all bulbs indicate) and I will properly mount ONE
in its original position, affix the +/- in what I hope will be the proper spots:
the one positive to the block and the negative to the regulator? on top of the
front drivers wheelwell and go from there. The bones are good here, but
the person who attended to the ENTIRE electrical system here's attitude
was: don't fix it, abandon it and put in a toggle, then double the
power with a second battery.
This ol'pipe man is about to be "rewired", then the
car too!!
Respectfully Always,
ybshore/Jack
