If you can get the chrome cleaned up again, be sure to polish it with a high quality wax. That might help prevent the moisture in the air from attacking the plating. I think this is particularly true of items that have been rechromed since they may not be as "heavy duty" as what was on the original. It also might be a good idea to wipe it down every time that you wash the exterior of car. This will keep it looking clean, and call your attention to anything that is starting to happen before it becomes a serious problem.
Most Imperials that I have seen over the years have accumulated a lot of pits and rust on the interior chrome, especially around the windows. Some if it can be cleaned off and polished. In fact, I have been surprised at how good some of it can look considering what I had started with. The same thing has not been true of replated parts, and some of the original stuff that has been let go too far.
Since you say that it was all cleaned up in May, I suspect most of what your seeing now can be removed with a good cleaner. At least I hope so, or you may be making another trip to the chrome shop. By the way, try to stick to genuine chrome cleaners and/or polishing compounds. Steel wool is hard on it. Even if it doesn't show up initially, steel wool may leave scratches that will in turn cause more probelms similar to what you have described.
We've had a LOT of rain this summer - literally, for a solid month it rained
nearly all day every day. Even when it quit being continuous, we've had
repeated rain storms move through so barely two days go by without any. It's
finally been clear this week but still everything is wet.
I was cleaning the interior on my Custom last night and noticed a lot of surface
rust and pitting showing up on chrome pieces I'd polished in May. Even the rear
view mirror arm is showing rust and I had that rechromed.
I've had the windows down and a tarp over the greenhouse for the past three
weeks to try to keep the car aired out but the carpet is still wet in places.
Does anyone else have a similar problem when it's so humid? I never had such an
issue with my '62 and it was a daily driver.
All new weatherstripping is at the top of my repair list for next year, I'd
think that would take care of the problem.....I just need to get it dried out!
