Well Rob, I don't know..
I mean, I don't know how long it was ago when you were a kid :)
Maybe NGK changed the design of their plugs which made then much more
resistant against fuel fouling.
I use NGK in all my cars and I never have had any problems with those
sparkplugs.
Try those XR-4 plugs (they are not expensive) and let us know your
experiences :)
