I strongly recommend the dealer for two reasons:
1) Although other places can pull any codes, only a dealer can upgrade the software installed on the tranny computer.
2) With a  dealer you know you are going to get ATF+3.  AT other shops you might get ATF+3 (disasters) Dexron plus an additive they claim makes it ATF+3 compatible.

If you pay a dealer to scan it, change the fluid and reflash the computer it will probably cost less that having someone else to part and the dealer reflash it.
