I recently purchased new hydraulic pump and cylinders for the systems on one of my other cars from Hydra Electric in Florida. They recommended Dextron transmission fluid over brake fluid to prevent paint damage, and other issues in the event of a leak. One thing that they stated was that they would not gaurantee their parts if DOT 5 silicone brake fuild was used instead of regular brake fluid. Based on this, it would seem that transmission fluid is fine, but I think the system should be flushed so that all the fluid is the same kind. I have never heard it was a good idea to mix brake fluid and transmission fluid.

Subject: IML: brake fluod or transmission fluid for my 66 convert.
I need to know if I should use brake fluid or transmission fluid in convertible cylinders for my 1966 imp convert. I recent purchased new cylinders but they appear to be two inches too short. Recently I rebuilt the motor and have since used transmission fluid however one of the cylinder has been leaking. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.
