IML: Auto-Pilot

<<What red button? 58 has the dial with a pushbutton in the middle, that's
all folks!! >>

Ya, the 58's are cool that way. There is a red-orange tape band that is evident only after pulling out the control knob, on later models. The 58's style seems so much more natural, I bet long fingernails caused the design change for '59.
I used my Auto-Pilot a lot in my '63 Salon. It worked great and the speed minder was a convenient feature, particularly in contrast to the annoying speed minder buzzer on my father's '60 Olds 98.
To the list member with the '56 that began this thread, keep us updated to your progress of adding a speed control device, whichever you end up using. I have also been considering the blank clock-delete dial nacelle in the instrument panel of my '63 Belvedere to utililize a spare A-P unit I have. Maybe I'll be putting my spare instrument cluster to work with that project someday. Thanks for posing the question.
