Re: IML: Auto pilot review.

The '58 Auto Pilot speed control knob displaces the center dashboard light that would otherwise be the parking brake indicator (I think.  Sitting here I can't exactly remember what the light is for). I don't see where there is a corresponding hole or other blank space to retro-fit a '58 style Auto Pilot on a '56 dashboard.  Accordingly, I agree with Paul: that an aftermarket modern appliance may be a better fit for your '56 if you are adding cruise control.  That being said, plainly you were wondering whether an authentic, mechanically superior Chrysler speed control sytem could be placed in your '56, as opposed to a Radio Shack replacement.  If so, your easy solution is...

to buy a '58!

Auto Pilot came out with the 1958 models. I suppose it could be adapted to fit a '56 model, although it would not be original. If you want to add cruise control to '56, you could also most likely purchase a modern aftermarket unit and successfully install it.
