Hi;
The radio portion of these stereos is hard to
get to
but fortunately the eight track section unscrews from the
bottom and unplugs from the rest. The section also contains the circuitry
specific to the eight track player. Given that the eight track player uses a DC
motor it may have a ring of diodes connected across it for speed control, if
there is a burned out diode in this ring the motor will run fast. This is just a
guess at the problem of course but getting at the eight track mechanism and
circuitry is no big deal, the radio circuitry, on the other hand, is tricky
to get at in the am/fm units. I have had to fix mine twice, once to
clean the controls and switches and once to repair the flywheel which had worked
itself loose from the capstan. Hopefully I will have as much luck in getting the
heater to work in my 75' Newport as I did the radio/ eight track
player.
