Clay & Steve: Clay, your Q about super-sensitive brakes is interesting. Steve, when I bought my 63, in May of this year, the PO and I secured a freshly overhauled master cyl and booster, as a vacuum leak in the then installed booster was affecting idle and low speed running. I too have 'super-sensitive brakes'- mostly when I first start up the car and apply them. It takes 'a super-sensitive toe' to prevent that 'instant stop-'thru the windshield ' experience you describe. SO I too have also wondered about this. I have found that if I apply the pedal several times BEFORE attemping to move the car into or out of the Garage, it is not quite so sensitive. I also found a vacuum leak under the dash from the (defunct) parking brake release vacuum canister. I plugged the hose and it helped the engine run smoother at idle, but appears NOT to have an effect on the brakes. The problem doesn't go away completely while driving, but it is not super-sensitive, just 'sensitive'. I've also felt varying degrees of sensitivity- and 'contact points' with different cars, but if your saying this is not typcal of Imperial brakes then it is something I need to focus on. I read somewhere that a slight 'adjustment' to the control rod that inserts into the master cylinder- can affect the sensitivity. This adjustment did help on my friend's 62 LeBaron, but I believe that has a slightly different booster. (Am I correct here?). The problem on the 62-which had pulling and grabbing brakes- turned out to be 'delaminated shoe linings'. I will contact the booster supplying company and report back. A fix would be good.
