The stainless steel inserts on the '60 Imperials are quite different that what was offered in '59. In 1959, only the Southampton (hardtop) models could be equipped with the "Silvercrest" roof because it was trimmed in a wide chrome band that extended from the forward edge of the C-pillar over the top of the roof and down the other side. Thus, the stainless steel portion covered about 3/4 of the entire roof. The sedans don't have the same C-pillar design and this roof treatment was not available. In 1960, instead of spanning the roof, the chrome band started about a foot from the corners of the front windshield and went fore-to-aft along the sides of the roof before gracefully curving down to meet the forward edge of the C-pillar. What resulted were two foot-wide stainless panels on either side of the roof, with the middle portion of the roof being painted. This time, the stainless treatment was available for both hardtops and sedans.
