Hi Rich,

I've had this problem on both my '70 and '71
Imperials.  The fix turned out to be simply lubing the
motor that opens and closes the headlight doors.

You'll want to remove the motor assembly -- unplug the
electrical connections, slide over the clips that hold
the torsion bar to the doors and then slide out the
bar, and then remove the three bolts that hold the
motor assembly in place.

Once you have it out, turn it upside down, and start
working some lubricant (I've used 30W oil, but use
whatever is handy, I guess) around the shaft where the
big knob is.  Turn the knob back and forth a LOT while
you're doing this!  You'll probably notice it will get
easier to turn after a few minutes.

Reassemble, and you'll be amazed at how quickly those
doors will fly open and closed!  AND they will close
all the way, too.
