Hi, Here is my sad and lonely tale.... I have an 81 imp and i quite frankly don't remember what the original problem was but in any event, I decided or was told by whatever mechanic I was dealing with at the time that it needed a valve job which I did in about 1987ish.... Well.. when I got it all back together, the engine ran perfectly HOWEVER the drivers side of the engine did not get any oil. I only ran it for a minute or 2 and tried to keep it well oiled by squiring oil on the rocker arms as I was trying to figure out the problem.. The pass side seemed to be getting plenty of oil but NOTHING on the drivers side. i could not figure it out and I had such a hard time wrangling the exhaust manafold etc. putting it together, that I was not looking forward to tearing it right back apart. Well.. Being a newlywed and not needing the car right then, I pushed it in the back of the garage and have not touched it till yesterday afternoon.. well. I first tried to turn over the engine with a breaker bar and it was initally stuck although with a couple of good pulls, it came loose. Then I pulled the head and I have been scratching my head trying to figure out what the trouble was... I was thinking I had put the head gasket on backwards or the machine shop I used had blocked the ports or something obvious was the problem. No such luck.. the gasket only goes on one way due to the pins. The ports seem fine and I ran a coat hanger wire through the 2 I found and they seem open. Nothing seems obvious and I am scratching my head wondering what the heck the problem could be which has plagued me for the past 18 years! here are my questions... 1. The cylinder walls now have a light bit of surface rust on em. Is that acceptable or should I clean em up while I have it opened? if so how? 2. Any idea what the oil problem is likely to be???? 3. How many oil passages should be in the head? i only found 2 through where the centerish head bolts go. 4. is the oil pump possibly the problem?? Any words of wisdom for getting this poor old 318 back together and well lubed again?? Thanks for any help you can offer! jeff ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
